Digital Presence
Becoming a digital educator not only is about understanding and teaching the significant college and career-ready skills necessary for students, but also modeling and promoting these skills. A fundamental skill all educators must embody in some way, shape, or form is maintaining a positive and productive digital presence. Also known as a digital footprint, we all must be aware of how this can affect us and students in the future. Exploring and Expanding Your Digital Presence
If you feel your digital presence is minimal, this course will immerse you in developing and/or greatly expanding your digital existence. From creating web-based mind-maps to collaborating on web-based presentations and lesson plans, your use and knowledge of digital teaching and learning will be exemplified online. This will begin to showcase some of the professional ways you engage in the digital world. You may already have your own website, Facebook page, Twitter account, Pinterest boards, etc, but are you using it to share appreciation for life-long learning as an educator? View some of the examples below to see or others are building their digital dossier:

As an educator, it is your role to continue to look for ways to assist and educate your peers, colleagues, and students in in life-long learning. A digital presence not only defines who you are, but provides ways to showcase your passions and teach others--anytime/anywhere. How can you convey this message to your students?

Activity
To begin, or continue to develop, your digital presence you will develop an Avatar using Voki, introduce yourself to your peers, and express why creating a productive digital presence is essential for educators and students.
Follow the steps below:

- Login/Create a Voki Account in the top right corner at http://www.voki.com
- View the tutorial
- Create a character and background
- Narrate using a microphone or phone line your name, title, and school/district as well why you believe creating a productive and positive digital presence is essential for educators and students
- Publish your Voki
- Link or embed your Voki to your community space.
Another option is to do one of the following - make sure you address digital presence and its important no matter which option you choose (Voki, about.me page, professional website, Twitter stream or another option):
- Creating or updating an about.me page
- Attaching a professional website that you use on an on-going basis and direct people to when they ask about your involvement online
- A Twitter stream that shows your active participation
- Any other digital presence that is approved by your facilitator.
