1. C. Portfolio Assignment
By now, the foundation is almost set for you you explore the significant aspects that are essential to be a Leading Edge Digital Educator. Many of you probably have diverse sets of strengths and weaknesses in integrating technology in teaching and learning. As you go through the core modules of the course, you will develop lesson plans in each Portfolio Assignment. These will be relevant, unique, and innovative plans that showcase your pedagogical knowledge of technology integration.
Each lesson plan will be created using a Google Doc template. The template encourages backwards design of curriculum, and was created with the tenants of Project Based and and Inquiry Based Learning in mind. Because the role of the Digital Educator, in today's climate of ubiquitous information transfer is one of a facilitator of curiosity rather than a disseminator of content, both approaches provide a appropriate pedagogical lens for this course. Click here to see the lesson planning template.
By clicking in the "use this template" button on the top left, the lesson planning template will be added to your own Google Drive data base. Rename the Lesson Plan using the following format: "First Name Last Name_Module ? Lesson Plan".

Technology Integration Matrix
As you develop each lesson plan, always think about the benefit of the technology to aid to in content mastery and career-ready skills. The Technology Integration Matrix was developed by the University of South Florida. This tool can provide you with a vision for integration technology successfully in your capacity. The matrix consists of five characteristics of technology integration: active, constructive, goal directed, authentic, and collaborative. It also defines five levels of integration for each characteristic from entry to transformation. View the summary of the matrix below and self-reflect on which level you are closely associated with for each characteristic.
As you develop your lesson plans, always keep in mind and aim to transform teaching and learning in one or more of the characteristics listed above.
Portfolio Assignment
Before you begin to develop your own technology-infused lessons based upon the National Education Technology Standards, you will take an existing lesson/project that is aligned to the Technology Integration Matrix and create a lesson plan to use in your own classroom. Use the Grade Level Video Index to develop your lesson plan and do the the following:
- View a few videos that exemplify a variety of the levels on the Technology integration Matrix that are relevant to your grade level and/or content area(s).
- Pick a level on the matrix that is above a level that you are at relating to a specific characteristic you are interested in strengthening.
- Write-up a lesson plan based upon one of the corresponding videos using the lesson plan template that can be used in your role with the technology and tools you have access to and post to your portfolio.
- Complete the lesson plan with your students and share a sample of student work.
